February is such a wonderful month to celebrate; Black History Month, Valentine’s Day, the Superbowl and so much more. There are all sorts of ways to use National days and monthly themes to help inform students about the world and positive character. Read below for some of them!
Our 1st/2nd grade subscription has nine episodes about how Black Americans used amazing character to change all our lives for the better. Read our blog post “Character Development Activities for Black History Month and Beyond!” We are also offering a free sample of Perseverance & Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Integrity & Rosa Parks.
On February 1st, 1865 President Lincoln signed the 13th Amendment to the Constitution outlawing slavery. Use our 1st/2nd grade episode Curiosity & George Washington Carver as both an introduction to Black History Month and to learn about an important African American who was born into slavery.
Did you know that groundhogs and squirrels are related? Use any of our episodes – Gray Squirrel is in all of them – as a fun way to talk about Groundhog Day!
Use February 9th as an opportunity to learn about the importance of giving and volunteering. Our kindergarten subscription has three episodes that talk about a kid who gives back to their community. We even have a free sample, Kindness & Jahkil Jackson.
Feb 11th is National Inventors Day and the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Guess what? We have the perfect resource! Learn about Kindness & Jane Goodall and how she helps chimpanzees.
Valentine’s Day isn’t just about love it’s also about friendship and spreading kindness. Watch our kindergarten episode Kindness at School to learn how to be a good friend!
Between our kindergarten and our 1st/2nd grade subscriptions, The Character Tree has 9 episodes on kindness! Take your pick, but our 1st/2nd grade episode Acts of Kindness is a wonderful way to start!
