Character Development Activities for Black History Month and Beyond!

Black history is an important part of American history and Black History Month provides educators an opportunity to dig deeper and help students uncover cultural impacts. You can explore the many contributions of Black prominent figures with our character development videos, printables, and activities below. Each video pairs a character trait with a Black prominent figure who exemplifies that trait. The biographies include scientists, civil rights leaders, athletes, and more! Examples of the included activities:

Printable Booklet: Simply print double-sided and fold. Use this to further student learning of each trait and prominent figure.

Word Work Activities: An engaging way to practice phonics skills and to continue learning vocabulary.

Class Book Pages: Provide each student with an opportunity to share about their experience with the trait. Bind the pages into a class book! A pre-made cover is included.

Comprehension Activities: These can be used as follow up activities to check for understanding throughout the week.

Parent Letters: Keep parents in the loop with regular parent communication. Parent letters for each episode include an option written from the teacher and an option written in the voice of the student.
